Hello CK blog readers! Its Cindy Tobey here, and Im happy to be with you this Friday, just a little over a week away from Halloween! Im also excited to be able to share a fun Halloween project with you! When I look back on my childhood Halloween memories, what stands out the most are the haunted houses I visited. There is nothing like the thrill of walking through a house full of frights. Did you notice my opening artwork for the Pretty Spooky article in the October issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine? Its of, you guessed it, a haunted house, and today Im going to show you how to make your very own.

The haunted house that I created for the Pretty Spooky feature has an elegant and spooky feel, but today Im going to recreate the haunted house using supplies with a more playful style. Paper pieced designs are great because you get to choose the patterns and colors for your design, creating just the right look and feel for the photos that you are scrapbooking.

Instructions:

First, cut out the pieces for your house. I started by cutting just the base pieces. You can cut them as you put the house together, or cut them all at once. Whatever works best for you.

For my Pretty Spooky haunted house I used a border punch to make scalloped strips for the roof. For this haunted house I cut the scalloped strips using micro-tip scissors from this fun piece of patterned paper by American Crafts from their new Boo! collection. These bold, colorful strips will add a bit of whimsy and a whole lot of fun to my haunted house.

Next, I cut out all the pieces for my windows. Rather than leaving the windows empty I applied some spooky rub-ons. First, see how the rub-on looks through the window frame before applying. If you go with black window frames on a black house as I have, use white pigment ink along the edges of the frame to help the windows stand out against your house.

For a more dimensional look, put your house together using lots of foam adhesive. Once all the pieces are in place you have a fun, large accent ready to use on a scrapbook page, or you could even use it as Halloween décor.
