Learn how to transform your photo into a Foxy Navi Avatar. Youll learn in this tutorial how to blend cuts and images together, change skin colour and also reshaping facial features.
Step 1
Alright lets get the ball rolling! First thing you need to do is duplicate the layer and change the Blend Mode to Color (again, this is located above the layers). Set the Opacity to 50% and the Brush colour to #0f539c, which will give you the Avatar skin blue colour as you will see in the next step.
Step 2
This is where well start painting the blue skin on. Select the Magnetic Lasso Tool and use this to trace around the skin areas. Go to Brush and pick any brush, doesnt really matter which one. Up the size of the brush and roughly paint over the skin.
Step 3
On the same layer, change the Brush colour to #4b2809 (which is a brownish colour) and do the same to the lips. Brush it roughly, the lips dont need to be done perfect and in my opinion looks better rough.
Step 4
For this part I thought Id save you time and provide you with the ears, you can grab them Here. I have added ear lobes just incase you guys need it in your own photos, I wont be needing it in my example so what Im going to do is use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to chop it off. Feel free to do the same, I guess it all depends whether it suits your image or not.
Step 5
Select the Smugde Tool and smudge the straight edges of the ear we just pasted into the photo. What you could also do is steal hair from other spots and use that to cover the straight edges to make it blend in more. Use the Free Transform Tool to twist the angle.
Now to get the other ear Duplicate, go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal and drag it across to the other side of the face. Easy?
Step 6
Duplicate the main image again, cut both eyes out into a New Layer and use the Free Transform Tool to enlarge them.
Select the Eraser Tool and use the brush to get rid of all the straight edges.
Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to trace the eyebrows and Layer Cut it. For the eyebrows make sure you set Blend Mode: to Exclusion and add Blur to it a couple of times. Again, to get the other eyebrow simply duplicate it and drag it across to the other side.
Tip: One thing you should always keep in mind while going through this tutorial is using the Clone Stamp Tool in the right places. For example, now that Ive enlarged and cut the eye into a new layer I need to blend it back into the photo so it doesnt look fake. You do this by using the Clone Stamp Tool, and holding down ALT to copy or clone similar areas.
Step 7
Cut out the nose and go to Filter > Liquify.
Use Bloat Tool to blow up the nose.
And use the Forward Warp Tool to re-shape it, pushing the tip of the nose upwards.
Use the Clone Stamp Tool to cover the straight cuts.
Step 8
Select the Polygonal Lasso Tool and begin tracing around the eyeball. Make a New Layer, select Paint Bucket and fill the inside with yellow (or just copy this #dddd45).
On the same layer change the blend mode to Multiply and then go to Image > Adjustment > and add Shadow/Highlight with the same values as the image below.
Shadow: 66%
Highlight: 0%
Now go to Image > Adjustment > and add Brighness/Contrast with the same values as the image below. This is just to make the eyeball colour a tad bit stronger and clearer.
Brightness: +150%
Highlight: +100%
Step 9
Its now time to make the glowing white freckles. To do this select the Brush Tool and add spots randomly on the face. Mix it up with different sizes, in my example I used 2 different sizes 7px and 4px. Do all this on a New Layer.
After you have made the freckles, add Layer Styles and check Outer Glow with the following settings:
Opacity: 20%
Noise: 0%
Technique: Precise
Spread: 0%
Size: 5px
Range: 50%
Jitter: 0%
Step 10
Last but not least, make a New Layer and add some line brush strokes on the face down to the neck. Put down the Opacity of that layer to 25%. I have highlighted the brushes I used in the screenshot below, which were all found under Assorted Brushes.
