The colorful and cartoon-like Japanese style of artwork called anime has literally "swept away" fans since its beginning. Anime appeals to both children and adults. Being a fan of anime means not just reading or watching it, but making your own as well. Graphics software programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS3 provide the tools to draw your own anime, whether you take cues from your favorite existing characters or start new adventures.

Create Anime Yourself

Open Photoshop CS3. Click the "File" menu. Click "New." Enter "Anime" into the "Name" box. Enter the canvas dimensions into the "Width" and "Height" boxes. Select "inches" for each and click the "OK" button to open the canvas.

Double-click the top-left colored square at the bottom of the "Tools" pane to open the "Color Picker." Choose black and click "OK."

Click the "Brush" tool, which is the paintbrush icon on the "Tools" pane. Pull down the brush head menu, second from the left unlabeled drop-down on the toolbar at the top of the screen. Choose a solid, round brush head and slide the "Size" bar to "20."

Draw the outline of the anime, such as a little girl or a warrior. Pull down the brush head menu and slide the "Size" bar down to "10." Add additional finer details to the anime, such as facial features or background elements.

Click a new color. Anime is often very bright, so choose something neon from the "Color Picker" and click "OK." Click the "Paint Bucket" tool on the "Tools" palette and click inside part of the drawing, such as the character's hair, to fill it with color.

Continue switching colors in the "Color Picker" and using the "Paint Bucket" to fill in the rest of the outlined areas on the anime.

Click the "File" menu. Click "Save As" and click the "Save" button.
