Hey Rice Students!

On behalf of the entire mens basketball team and staff, I just wanted to say thank you to those of you who attended our exhibition game on Saturday. Your energy was great and we need you to keep that energy coming!  I want you all to take a break from the library and come see us in action again at Tudor Fieldhouse next Wednesday, November 19th at 7:00pm for our home opener.  Come early for music and free food before the game and the first 350 students will receive a Rice Rising t-shirt.

We are committed to building a basketball program that all of our fellow Owls can be proud of and we need your support.  So grab 5 of your friends, paint your faces blue and white and head over to Tudor Fieldhouse next Wednesday ready to cheer your Owls to victory.

Hope to see you there!

That final paper youre working deserves to be more that just a grade. Hello Rice!

As the chapter president of Project Rousseau I am excited to announce we are looking for new members for the coming Spring! My name is Anoosha Moturu, a sophomore at Sid Rich, and I wanted to share this opportunity with all of you.

Project Rousseau at Rice is a chapter of a national non-profit organization that opened this past fall, and that is currently in the process of recruiting our second round of mentors for the Spring semester. The program partners with Houston Heights High School, a high school with underserved students from the area, to match up mentors from Rice University with promising students from the high school by grade (sophomores to sophomores, juniors to juniors, etc.). Mentoring activities are one-on-one between the mentee and mentor, and foster strong bonds between both students. Activities range from academic advice to community service to extracurricular activities such as museum trips and sporting events. It's an organization with branches all over the country, some of the more prominent being Julliard, Columbia, etc. The program has been incredibly successful, changing the lives and perspectives of not only the mentees, but the mentors as well!

We are currently recruiting mentors (geared towards freshman and sophomores) that would feel passionately about creating those strong big brother/sister-like bonds with students. There is more information about the program, a message from the founder to Rice, and a very brief application that is due December 5 (the last day of classes) that can be found at this address: https://www.facebook.com/groups/237910753080918/ . Please feel free to reach out to any of the current mentors on the page or myself for any more information about the organization.

Thank you so much, and we hope to hear from you!

Protests have spread across Mexico in the last several weeks, as shocked and outraged citizens take to the streets to express their anger with the tragic events that have rocked the southern town of Iguala. On September 26, 43 students training to be teachers traveled to Iguala to petition for more money for their rural school. The mayor of the city ordered the police to detain the students. They were then handed over to the Guerreros Unidos, a local cartel. The majority of the students have not been found, but the Attorney Generals office has declared them legally dead as of Nov. 10, 2014. When asked about the case, the Mexican Attorney General stopped the questions by stating Ive had enough.

To show your solidarity with the missing students and people of Mexico come to the Academic Quad for a short candlelight vigil and eulogy at 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday, Nov. 19th.

The Campanile is looking for seniors to feature in the Senior Section of this year's book, and we want your input! Do you know any outstanding or interesting seniors that we should feature? Nominate them here: http://ow.ly/Ersfe

*You CAN nominate yourself and you can nominate multiple people*
